The starting pistol fires marking the start of winter in Westendorf and the opening of the Ski Welt. The winter sports area of and the Ski Welt is the biggest interconnected ski area in Austria. Accordingly, the opening is of course spectacular, with a "downhill" for snowboarders, ski tests throughout the ski area and much more.

World Cup stars and those who want to be stars
The Hahnenkamm-Warm-up event has been taking place in Westendorf for years. World Cup stars meet at the night-time slalom on the Zipl slope. Probably the craziest and coldest event of the winters is 'Jump & Freeze'. Daredevil participants jump with their skis or snowboards, decked out in traditional clothing, or in their home-built vehicles, into a pool where the water is 3 degrees. Not to be missed.
